The swimming pool?!? BuT tHaTs FoR nOoBs.
As we reach the end of September the OW Diving season in Saskatchewan is quickly drawing to a close. If you’re not an Ice Diver the best way to keep breathing underwater around here is by joining a pool session. You may be asking, “But I’m a certified diver, why would I want to go back to the pool?” Well, the answer to that may be different for everyone, but here’s a handful reasons.
Perhaps you recently bought a new or used piece of gear. You should really test it out in a controlled environment before you take on the dark depths of Lovering lake.
Maybe you have a hot holiday planned; it’s been awhile since your last dive and you want to shake the rust off before you go so you’re dialed in for those tropical waters.
Has it been awhile since you attempted those OW skills? It never hurts to get back in the pool and go through them again. The more muscle memory you can create, the more likely you’ll be able to deal with a potential problem in a calm, safe manner.
Are you looking for little bits of advice or tips to become a better diver? Our sessions are always attended by experienced instructors and divemasters who are more than happy to help.
Hey, maybe you just want to practice making bubble rings like in those vids you’ve seen on TikTok and the ‘gram. That’s cool too! If you figure it out, teach Trevor. He’s been struggling with that for years.
Even as an instructor, I almost always come to a pool session with SOMETHING I want to work on. There’s always room to improve and grow as a diver.
I remember years back, when I came home from overseas, freshly scuba certified, and had no close friends or family that were into diving. I just wanted to hang out and chat with other divers and I struggled to find those opportunities. If you just want to come out to be social and hang out, that opportunity is now here, at the pool, with the RSSC. If you don’t have gear, we’ll hook you up with some. And don’t worry about the ever-present spectre of Chris’s ominous shark puppet, aptly named Sharki. He doesn’t bite, just photo-bombs.
The club has recently posted the schedule for the upcoming winter season so you have plenty of time to put a session or six on your calendar.
So, hey, maybe see you at the pool soon!
Cheers,
Luke
Oh, and I forgot to mention……there’s pizza and beverages after.
